Hair Highlights Spring Fling: 4 Things to Try for Switching Up Your Look

Spring is here in all its glory, which means it’s a time for a change!

The new season calls for a new you, so you can make changes to your hair and transform everything. Play with the color, cut and style of your hair, working closely with a hairstylist that you trust to bring your new look to life. Don’t be afraid of changing your hair length or deviating from the same old hair color you’ve been sporting since you were eighteen. If the flowers are blooming, why aren’t you?

This spring, the hottest hair colors, and styles that are going to be everywhere include:

Hair Highlights

1. Silvery cool blondes

Spring calls for warmer weather, but cool-toned hair is very much on-trend. Opt for a silvery blonde that flatters your skin tone and makes you look ethereal. Think Daenerys Targaryen, but with more depth and variation in hair color. Although regular blonde tones won’t be going anywhere in 2020, remaining an ever-popular choice, silvery hues are a strong candidate too.

2. Warmer caramels and browns

Warmer caramel tones and browns are also always a great choice that’s staying popular this year, especially for spring-summer. Add dimension to dark hair with caramel highlights, or play with your hair color and switch to a chocolate brown base with lighter chocolate brown tones woven into your hair.

3. Shadow roots and dip dyes

Shadow roots are intended to give the illusion of depth at the scalp, making your hair look darker at the top and lighter at the bottom. Think reverse gradient. This look works best with lighter hair colors, like blondes and light browns, which might require a major change from what you currently have.

Surprisingly dip dyes are also making a comeback this year, with celebrities like Demi Lovato sporting them. The trend was incredibly popular around 2015, eventually taking the backseat. This year we see it take the driver’s seat once more.

4. Modern shag haircuts

There are a few haircuts that are worth mentioning each year, making headlines for their popularity. The modern shag is one of them. I thought this haircut was only for supermodels and our moms in the 70’s, but it’s an incredibly popular choice this year. Of course, it’s been adapted to look a lot more modern and trendier than what we’re used to seeing. If you’re feeling a little daring, stop by my hair salon in Concord, NH for a haircut!
